An oldie I know, but this still makes me laugh so once more let's hear from the seals!

Ancient "Royal Temple" Discovered in Ireland

Interesting find dating from the days when Celtic kings ruled the Emerald Isle. Today's Dublin commuters may not appreciate the delay in constructing a needed highway in whose path this temple was discovered, but recovery of some artifacts at least is a good thing in my view.

A humbling example for all of us

The Ever-Growing American Commute

[S]o many people now commute more than an hour-and-a-half to work, the Census Bureau has given them a new name: Extreme commuters.

"It's amazing the number of people who are commuting those distances today," said Alan Pisarski, author of a government report. "It's growing five times as fast as the general growth in commuting — about three million, 3½ million [commute] more than 90 minutes a day, about ten million more than 60 minutes." (CBS News)

The cost of housing whether owning or renting is so high in many areas like where I live that most people have little choice but to live far away from their jobs. The closer one gets to D.C. the rent on an apartment can be more than a mortgage on some houses further down I-95! It's no surprise to me that "extreme commuting" is a growing trend in America. I've been doing over a 50 mile drive each way to get to work. Hence why I've grown so fond of my iPod and listen to so many podcasts I suppose...

Memorial Day

Today isn't the day for politics, to post funny videos or eye-candy pics, etc. No, today is Memorial Day and while we should remember those in uniform everyday, at least one day out of the year it is right to take a break from everything to do just that. So on this Memorial Day I'd like to say thanks and honor the sacrifice and memory of those who paid the ultimate price for this nation along with everyone in uniform past and present. They are the defenders of our liberty and without them we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today. God bless our Armed Forces and the United States of America.

How to tell if you're gay

Pretty good video. A sailor puts together some suggestive photos in making this parody for the guys in his unit. Add the Southpark "Rainbow Song" and this one is worth a watch. Some cute guys too always helps...

More gay Arab linguists discharged

Lawmakers who say the military has kicked out 58 Arabic linguists because they were gay want the Pentagon to explain how it can afford to let the valuable language specialists go.

Seizing on the latest discharges, involving three specialists, members of the House of Representatives wrote the House Armed Services Committee chairman that the continued loss of such “capable, highly skilled Arabic linguists continues to compromise our national security during time of war.” (Army Times)

Yes this is incredibly asinine and yes this policy needs to be abolished. Yet talk about political nonsense, it doesn't matter if the top leadership in the all branches of the military are raging homophobes. Thanks to President Clinton and Congress, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is the law of the land which military leaders are bound to obey. I agree with this Congressman that it is stupid and needs to be repealed, but that's Congress' job and not the Pentagon. Instead of this farce in dressing down the military, Congress should focus on passing the Military Readiness Enhancement Act which repeals DADT.

The missing part of the Noah's Ark story

What really happened to the mythical creatures...

Stanford’s Anti-ROTC Policy is Self-Contradictory

Good article I've been meaning to post by Yishai Kabaker of The Stanford Review:

[W]e should not punish those students who wish to serve this country by setting obstacles in their way. Denying our nation and its armed forces the skill and education that Stanford and other great universities produce only harms progress towards a more tolerant military. It also denies our nation the best products of its education system for the advancement and improvement of national defense. I look forward to the day when, as a homosexual, I can openly serve in the military and when my fellow Stanford students can openly and easily participate in an ROTC program with pride. In the meantime, concerns over the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy should be directed at the policymakers who enacted it rather than the service members who are required to enforce it.

Well said.

Sorry but I have a lot of work I'm involved in this week, so posting will be sporadic and probably only consist of videos for now. I'll try and get something more up when I can. God bless.

For now, here's a pretty good faux trailer which re-makes The Sixth Sense into a coming-of-age and coming out story. Enjoy.

This was one of my favorite comedy shows growing up. One of the things I loved about it was to see which performer would lose it first. Harvey Korman usually did, thanks to the antics of Tim Conway. They always made me laugh hysterically.
