I normally eschew the whole "pride" thing, mostly because I personally find no reason to be 'proud' of being gay anymore than others who are straight. It's just a part of what makes me who I am. I also have difficulties with some of the political leanings of the groups pushing for "gay pride". Yet, in the sense of refusing to be ashamed of who I am and solidarity with those like myself and others who face hostility for who they are in an oftentimes cruel world, that I can do. This transcends political differences, upholding human dignity and compassion. So with a profound hat tip to Kelly Stern, I'm posting this photo from him of the fountain in Byrd Park, Richmond, Virginia.
