Well I'm off to get tricksey for some treats, or something like that. Have a ghoulish evening folks!

You might be a redneck if...
...your wedding picture looked like this...
...and your wedding cake looked like this.
Hmm...some of those snacks look a wee bit tasty. Damn the temptation!

Blaming Fathers
This has got to be one of the most vile and despicable claims being touted by some in the so-called "exgay" movement. To lay that kind of guilt on fathers when it is completely unjustified just pisses me off. My father hugged me, spent time with me, talked with me, etc. and none of this had a damn thing to with me being gay. That anyone would try and make my Dad feel guilty as if he 'failed' in raising me, well that person is of the lowest character to me and unworthy of my time. Nicolosi and those of his ilk on the extreme Right should be ashamed of themselves for this, though I'm not stupid enough to think that they have such decency.

...you need fashion tips from your husband.
Wow. Um...now that's a scarey sight for Halloween!

You might be a redneck if...
...you carry your front porch with you.
Maybe not "rednecky" but someone inspired by a very weird dream. I cannot fathom why anyone would want to build this onto their car.
A fond hat tip to the comedic genius that is Larry the Cable Guy.

My Name is JAKL
My sister just loves the show this video spoofs. I think it's okay and has its moments, but this parody is quite funny for having been in the Navy meself.

You might be a redneck if...
...a little rain doesn't spoil the fishing.
Eh, this could also be an example of turning lemons into lemonade as the saying goes. Me dear Dad, obsessed as he is with all things to do with fishing (fly-fishing especially), would certainly appreciate this.
A fond hat tip to the comedic work of Jeff Foxworthy.

TGIF!
Finally. The looooong week is over. Time to sit back with a cold one and relax. Yet before slipping into that coma which is the TV or internet, one must shed a bit of that stress which has built up. That means it's time for some music, so rock on baby!

Why women don't take men on vacation
A good friend of mine sent me these funny photos along with this prayer:
Dear Lord,
I pray for Wisdom to understand my man;
Love to forgive him;
And Patience for his moods;
Because Lord, if I pray for Strength,
I'll beat him to death.
Amen!

Star Trek: Of Gods & Men
Oh. My. Goodness. For a Trekkie this is friggin' awesome news! Actors from the Original Series through Enterprise are in this FREE fan film. Now because this is free (i.e. nobody involved gets paid), the production quality is lower than what everyone expects from Star Trek but who cares? The chance to see the characters I've enjoyed in a new adventure and it all comes to me at no cost through the Net? Oh yeah, baby! Add to this that the storyline looks like it takes place in the Mirror Universe and I totally cannot wait for its release! I'm posting the trailer below and for more information go check out the website.

Bob Barr on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
"The fact is, equal treatment of gay and lesbian service members is about as conservative a position as one cares to articulate."
When Bob Barr was serving in Congress he always reminded me a bit of a scrappy street-fighter. That can be a good thing and it seems that his opposition to DADT first outlined in an opinion piece this past June in the Wall Street Journal remains just as strong. Pepe Johnson of Integrity in Service interviewed the former Congressman about the policy restricting gays from openly serving in the military, along with his move to the Libertarian Party. I personally think Barr's latter move is unwise and fruitless as returning the GOP to more libertarian principles would be more productive in achieving his goals. Nevertheless, a good and interesting interview.

Best Buds
A friend sent me these photos by email and I'm not sure which one to go "awwwwwww!" about more (I have no idea who this is):

Boy the kid's mother must have been slightly nervous with this ox hanging all over her baby! He kinda looks like he's waiting for the cameraman to turn their back for a moment so he can have lunch.

"I, Claudius" 30 Years Later
Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8.
I first saw this superb epic at the young age of 8 (yeah, I was an odd child I guess). At first glance to my young eyes it appeared to be nothing more than a "Mommy show", one of those annoying programs that thanks to Mother's insistence interrupted the true classics of television viewing like Gilligan's Island or Hogan's Heroes. Yet for some reason it captured my imagination and held me spell-bound during its complete run. Seeing the likes of Derek Jacobi, Jon Hurt, Brian Blessed and others broke through the monotony of the stale programs I was used to and exposed me for the first time to how great acting can be. Besides that, it's a good yarn of soap operic proportions. Ever since then whenever I catch this program on TV I still find something to enjoy in it. Seeing the actors from this show interviewed 30 years later was simply a delight.
Common Heroes, Uncommon Valor
"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." - Galadriel, The Fellowship of the Ring
This is Andree Dumon, a Belgian grandmother. She doesn't look very strong, does she? Yet this woman at the tender age of 17 showed just how strong a spirit she has when in the face of brutal Nazi occupation of her homeland and the terror of war, she joined others in the heroic efforts of the Comet Line. This resistance group didn't kill anyone, wasn't responsible for sabotaging anything, nor was it a source of great intel for the Allies. Yet the bravery of Dumon and others like her provided an invaluable service to the war effort as they are credited with rescuing and sheperding to safety 800 Allied soldiers and airmen. Many lost their lives, like Dumon's father, while others were betrayed and endured the horrors of concentration camps, like Dumon did herself. A remarkable story of compassion, heroism and stiff resistance in the face of evil. Take a few moments and read about the Comet Line and people like Dumon, along with other experiences in occupied Belgium during the terrible days of World War II.

Interesting list of favorite gay-themed movies from Out In Hollywood. A couple of these on his list I haven't seen and a couple I didn't like very much. If I had to put together my own Top 10 list, it would look something like this:
1. Big Eden
2. Mambo Italiano
3. All Over The Guy
4. Trembling Before G-d
5. The Trip
6. Birdcage
7. Latter Days
8. Touch of Pink
9. Just One Time
10. Beautiful Thing

The cost of trying to "cure" homosexuality
This is a very powerful video from Truth Wins Out and is rightly condemning of the ex-gay nonsense about marriage being a 'cure' for homosexuality. I remember briefly flirting with the idea of marrying a woman when I was much younger, hoping that love would develop from friendship and that the gay would go away as a result. Fortunately reason took hold and I didn't which was good since I doubt I could have even faked being sexually aroused by women. Female nudity and heterosexual intercourse don't bother me in the least which I suppose is a big part of the problem in a manner of speaking. I also knew that I could never truly commit myself to a woman and for a Catholic the idea of abusing the Sacrament of Marriage without being able to give oneself completely is appalling. I could love a woman but not be IN love with her. Besides all this though it is extremely cruel to the woman (or man in the case of closeted lesbians). God keep these women and their families.

Toe-Tapping Like Fred Astaire
Ok, I've avoided the obvious spoofs of Larry Craig's...er, bathroom activities, but this one cracked me up! I have no idea what you call it, but I loved the part where he moves his arms in a circle as he's moving his legs. Ha!

Weird Weapons of WWII
This is a totally awesome (like, "wow") show on some really innovative and unusual weapons the Allies had in mind against the Axis powers during World War II. Some of these are very strange, but I did find the iceberg aircraft carrier along with the bat & pigeon bombs to be most interesting. Enjoy!
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5.
UPDATE: Damn the Nazis were evil but truly clever little bastards! Behold the Volkswaffe!

'The Hobbit': Peace in Middle-Earth?
Perhaps The Hobbit will now be made. You know I never understood why New Line and Peter Jackson had their falling out. Tolkien's literary masterpiece is one of my favorite writings and Jackson's movie adaptations are among my favorite movies of all time. I've been waiting for 4 years for the LOTR prequel to be made and maybe now it will be. Sheesh, everybody knows it will make tons of money so put the damn egos aside, kiss and make up and get busy!

Enterprise - In A Mirror Darkly
The Enterprise series was just okay, but it did have some good episodes like this one:
Even with his face scarred the beautiful Trip is still dreamy. Yeah, I said it. Dammit. But he is. Oh yeah he is.

Modern Marvels: World's Biggest Machines
The bit on the USS Ronald Reagan was of course waaaay cool, but the rest only adds to the chorus of Toolman grunts I hear when watching this.
